Hi folks,


  I'm repeating my fuel pump question as I think the original got lost in the E85 thread.


  Does anyone know the relationship between the fuel pump used in the Vanagon and that used in the Golf and other models?


  ETKA tells me that my 86 has part 251 906 091; it also says that my 1980 Golf GTI with the mechanical K-Jetronic injection has 171 906 091A. Since most parts for the Mk1 Golf begin 171 and most parts for the Vanagon begin 251, does that suggest that the pumps are the same?  Except for that pesky "A" on the end.


  I ask because my usually-knowledgeable local German parts specialist seems to think they're not compatible and the price of the Vanagon pump is twice that of the Golf one.


  I know someone on  the list has the answer to this!
