It's not a 'performance' vehicle. In any case, no performance tire would have a sufficient load rating or sidewall stiffness. Snow tires are only suitable for areas that get a lot of snow. Since they are not advisable in normal driving conditions, you have to swap tires every year. All season tires are the best compromise for most vehicles. I've used then from New York to Phoenix, Arizona with no problems whatsoever. They work well in snow and the speed rating easily exceeds what the Vanagon can do.
