Hi, This happens when one of the gears in the odometer starts slipping on its shaft. It can usually be corrected by roughing up the shaft and a little super glue. The job requires a fair amount of mechanical aptitude and careful work, but if there's nothing to lose, why not try it. At a certain point in the disassembly you will be stopped by the speedometer needle; with enough force, it will pull straight off. Before you do that, you need to plan so that you can put it back at the proper angle. Gently lift the needle over the stop post and let it reach the spot preferred by the spring with no tension. Mark the position of the end of the needle so that you can put it back on in the same place later. It's been about three years since I did this, so I don't remember many of the other details, but the one I fixed is still working. Good luck, Larry A.
