Jeffrey, The reason the plastic vent cover is important to use as suggested in your Westfalaia ownwer's manual , is to keep water out of the burner of the Dometic Refrigerator when washing the Van. If you enjoy kneeling down in front of your refrigerator, and groaping for the drain cap screw, don't use the suggested cover. Ron
