Dennis, I've had several Vanagon engines now with this problem, as you describe, (adjusting if first done wrong ).... This is exactly what happened. Done wrong originally. To tight, and they hang opened just a hair. I'm sure this is not good, but I've never had to open one of these up to see further. The very next engine I'm pulling out had this problem a few years ago. Its now leaking at the heads, and I will be replacing it soon. I'll then have a chance to see it there was any other damage.
