Gary,

I've driven a few miles with a tandem suspended from an old Rhode Gear rack on the back (live dangerously, I say!). It worked, though the tandem stuck our maybe 6 or 8 inches on either side - not enough to be a hazard. If you remove the front wheel, it doesn't stick out at all.

If I were doing it again, I'd get one of your racks, but I'd still keep it on the back - I'm not planning on lifting that beast any higher than I have to!
