One of our favorite places to go in Alaska includes traveling the last 60 miles on a dirt road that is an old railroad bed, we try to avoid the spikes there. In the 70's you could pick them up all along the road now they only show up after the graders go through. They make a nice hole in your tire if you hit one.:-)
