Because it will blow off the van at highway speeds.  It was never made for
this purpose.  I have recently traveled for the past two weeks (Ventura,
CA to Circle Yer Wagens [Sevierville, TN]) in several severe
thunderstorm/downpours in Oklahoma/Arkansas/Tennessee on Interstate 40 with
the propane on without having it blow (or drown out) on "Ole Putt".  Fridge
worked just fine on LP.  As Dave says, it is only to be used when washing
your Westy, perhaps to prevent a bunch of water all at once going into the
flue.
