The 133-133-511 is the standard filter used on the early tanks with 7,, hose outlets. The 1HO-201-511-A has 11mm hose inlet and outlet. It was installed on some 86+ vans to catch new tank debris. It was to be removed at the first service and only the metal filter after the pump is used.

There is a screen or sock in the tank that will catch the big stuff and protect the pump. There is little benefit to a filter before the pump and most manufacturers do not use one on FI vehicles. A filter can cause more problems as the fuel will vaporize or boil under a vacuum and these pumps move a lot of fuel so restrictions before the pump must be reduced.

Does anyone know the difference in the in-line fuel filter both listed for the 83.5 watercooled Vanagon?

The one in the bus now is a square plastic filter just before the the fuel pump. (The 83.5 does not have a metal filter after the pump like the 84-85.)

ETKA shows 2 filters:

1HO 201 511-A 133 133 511

And there doesn't seem to be any distinction listed. Will they both work, or are they for two different set ups?

Thanks Jeff 83.5 Westy LA,CA
