I fashioned one from a domed, stainless-steel soup-kettle lid purchased at a thrift store. I installed a T-nut in the center of the flue vent, and drilled a hole through the center of the kettle lid where once the knob-handle resided. A SS Allen-head bolt and washer affix the lid to the vent, and a ring of polyethylene weatherstripping on the edge of the pot lid prevents metal-to-metal contact.

Polished up real nice, it's sleek and smoothly rounded, and doesn't look as hideous as it sounds. In fact, it's perhaps the most aerodynamic thing on the entire van!

I've never used the OE plastic vent cover, but deterioration and eventual loss seem to be the most common complaint. Such sunlight damage can be prevented by use of a good UV protectant such as 303: http://www.303products.com/main.php

Good luck!
