My oil lite comes on and goes off. Mechanic advised that this sometimes happens and not to worry about it. Engine temperature normally runs slightly below mid-range. Notice that when engine idles for an extended period, especially in the summertime, and the temp gauge might go up to the three quarter level before the fan kicks-in, that if I shut the engine off before taking it for a short spin around the block, until the fan stops running, that the coolent backups via the coolent exspansion tank and belches and spills maybe a cup, or so, of coolent on the ground.

Wondering if anyone can tell me if either of these vanagon mis-behaviorisms might be considered reasonably normal or I should I be concerned enough to take some sort of proactive measure?

Haven't been a list member for a few years, please pardon the rust spots.
