To make reasonable use of the under floor area for a tank, a tank built just for Vanagons is needed. I have looked and looked for any off the shelf RV or boat tank, fuel or water. None fit in the space without hanging down too much and carrying too little. The tanks made to precisely fit Vanagons can only hold 10-12 gals.

Your best bet is probably one of the early Vanagon Westy tanks. These fit under a full width bed, 3 person bench seat, that these models came with. These use the same hole in the floor for the tank drain as the tall tanks, but are flatter and longer side to side. They also use the same led water level circuit. These tanks came in the 80/81 Westy that had no propane equipment.
