Hi Mindy,

Congradulations on your purchase. I have always wanted a split windown
van, I am sure you have made a few people on this list jealous with
your new toys.

Start by buying a copy of John Muir's "How to keep your Volkswagen
Alive Forever", it is essential reading for the early VW owner. And
though it is a mechanics manual, it is written in an almost "novel"
style so it is an easy read for even the least mechanically inclined,
but the information is rich enough even for the ace mechanic.

However, if your uncles old vans vans actually do have two seperate
windsheilds, one for the driver and one for the passenger with a metal
bar separating them, you have what is known as a "split window" van.
Built sometime between 1949 and 1967. Though there are some split
window owners on this list, you have not found the right resource.
Vanagons are the angular looking VW vans built between 1980 and 1991,
this list is primarily a resource for those vans which are very
different than the ones you just bought so there will be little
information here for you.
