Definitely not snake oil! Serious engineering, but significant mods to the cooling system are needed to take full advantage of the possibilities. I looked at this when I was studying the possibility of running the TDi engine at about 30 degrees hotter than the stock design. Concluded the additional thermal efficiency wasn't a good enough response for the engineering investment. The Evans approach is an excellent solution to cavitation problems and localized overheating points. Haven't looked at waterboxer seal compatibility of thermal stresses.
