Subject: Fuel pump noise
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

Hi folks, I'm back on the fuel pump theme again. Checking the archives brings up several possible causes of fuel pump noise.

Checked the pump yesterday on my 86 Westy and found it leaking badly at the front of the case where it's crimped closed. Having had advice from the list members I changed out the fuel filter and also the short lengths of hose around the pump and filter.

I ordered a new pump yesterday afternoon from Euro Car Parts in England and was astounded to receive it this moring for E80 less than my local VW specialist charges and that includes express delivery. It certainly was express to get from Wembly in the UK to Co. Wicklow in Ireland in less than 24 hours.

Clean fuel flowing from the tank, no dirt, rust, or crud. Installed the new pump and switched on.

Buzzzzzzzzz, buzz, buz, bz, buzzzzzzzz

Following the advice in the archives, I'll check the fuel pressure regulator next, but that'll mean a trip to a dealer, as I don't have a pressure gauge suitable.

N
