I got a new windshield in '01, using the same seal.  The glass shop
just pushed the old glass out (with their feet) and put the seal
on the new glass and zipped it in.  They didn't remove the plastic
"chrome" strip.  The windshield leaked a little and they put some
sealer around.

I just got a new windshield and used a new BusDepot seal--the one
without a groove for the chrome strip.  The glassman had to work
quite a bit to zip it in and I notice that it covers much better
on the outside.  Places on the corners that I could see before are
well under the rubber.  The glassman thought it extremely solid and
couldn't imagine it could ever leak.

I think the original seal had shrunk and contracted over the
years, and that a new rubber seal is worth the price.

Plus, the black rubber seal and the new black gutter strips
replacing the old "chrome" ones make the front of my white
Westy look much better.  :-)
