While knocking around the new parts department ( 2 rubbermaid containers) I was pleased to find a set of brand new rear wheel bearings and seals, which I had forgotten about stashing away, (Yippy!). Also found a couple of other new parts items which may be of use to other list members, as follows:

This may qualify for the "what's it worth" department, but as it may be useful to someone with an overheating problem, thought I'd bring it to the attention of the list, which, I believe, I may have done several years, or so, ago, minus the relevant part numbers.

These items were purchased from "Fast German Auto", L.A. several years ago, but never used to try to alleviate an existing overheating problem. I was told by Rene (parts manager) that this is one of their recommended possible helpful measures to deal with overheating issues

It appears that the thermostat may be a BMW item, which may give your vanagon an exalted sense of identity.

While I realize that certain engines run at optimum performance temperature levels, I do not know how running at a ten degree lower vanagon temperature might effect that concept. I leave that for the self-appointed engineer types on the list to consider.

I do not believe, however, that "Fast German Auto" would have knowingly suggested this possible amelioration (pardon the BIG word) if it would have caused contary engine performance issues.
