Subject: replacing the 14 pin instrument cluster connector
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

I mean really replacing it. Like putting in something new and better. Anybody done that? Many of us have the old failing plastic printed circuit foil situation, where the copper pads that engage in the connector start to peel off and/or corrode. I'm thinking of finding where in the cluster each trace meets a component where I can solder a wire. Put a new connector on the end of all those wires, then a new one on the "van" side of the wires running to the cluster.

I don't think anything running to the cluster carries much current. I wonder if I could use a DB-25 connector like a computer uses on its parallel port. I have a lot of those laying around.

Edward
