Subject: Fuel line connection check - heads up!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Just got my engine back in and wanted to share what happened. The rubber fuel hose to plastic fuel line connection just in front of the fire wall (just in front of the engine) was leaking when I started the engine. Thought it was a coolant leak at first...but man did I move fast once I realized what was going on!!! When I tried to fix it I discovered that the plastic line had worked it's way out of the rubber fuel hose. I don't think that I did this while working on the motor & transmission but maybe??. I replaced my lines in 2004 with the kit from Van Again that come with ABA stainless steel fuel line clamps...very nice clamps BTW. Every other junction was still tight but this one was not. I replaced the fuel hose and wrapped it with some electrical tape so that the clamp will tighten more on that plastic fuel line. There are no barbs on the plastic fuel pipe so if the clamp is not very tight there is not much holding it on there. Just in case you have the same set up as me you might want to check that connection.

BTW, my fuel line to hose connector that goes through the firewall is metal and not plastic like most seem to be. Looks like OEM but don't know for sure. I bought a new plastic one and was planning on replacing my existing one as preventative measure after reading of all the advice to replace that part...oh well, I have a spare "upgraded" plastic one in my spare parts bin now.
