Dennis Haynes has posted information about the limits of sensible towing with the Vanagon and its brakes many times over the years. He warns that the Vanagon can tow more than it should be expected to stop.

Search for trailer and messages with haynes in the sender's name and you'll find it.

He also constantly emphasizes that the Vanagon's brakes are much better than people think, if the brakes are properly maintained and get new parts with reasonable frequency. Many of us neglect brake maintenance. I've learned that full flushes and new wheel cylinders in the rear should be done regularly, not just when something fails.

I intend to learn how to do the job myself and replace everything on the rears soon. Front has new disc brakes.

Sam
