I'm having trouble getting the rubber seal around the wind wing (quarter-window) out. The illustration in the factory service manual on p 57.2 shows (Step 13) the main window front guide channel as a simple piece held in with two bolts (as illustrated on p 57.5). I've removed those two bolts, as required, and the door window and quarter-window glass. But my quarter-window assembly appears to be different than the manual indicates. The window front guide is riveted to what appear to be metal strips that live inside the quarter-window rubber seals. By tapping on the guide channel with a mallet, I can move it rearward about 1/2'', then it gets stubborn. I could bang on it harder . . . but I know where that leads. I could shred the old quarter-window rubber seal to see what's hiding under it, but I dunno if I'll find some difficulty that will make installing the new one a major problem. The pivots for the quarter-window might be part of my problem. The book says nothing about removing them, and maybe they are interfering with removal. So I'm pausing at this point, hoping that someone who knows more about this bit of the Vanagon can help. --
