Just got a reply from a helpful someone who also does not have the small screws. He said that the speakers were threaded into the holes. I checked on my non A/C 83-1/2 and sure enough, there is a large ring that threads onto the back of the speaker holding it in place.

Problem is that on the 87 I have A/C and have no access to the back of speakers without major dissassembly so I will attempt to unscrew from the front somehow and hope that the leads don't get too twisted in the process. I'll let you know.
