Subject: Wind Noises 'round the doors
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

I'll be taking Mellow Yellow's driver and passenger doors apart to replace corroded window rubbers and scrapers, and to install sound dampening material to the metal panels. While I'm working on them, I'm trying come up with a fix for this air leakage that causes wind noises up in the rear upper corner area of each door when I'm driving at freeway speeds. Which seems to be around 58 mph the way I drive. Anyway, the Factory Repair Manual describes several fixes for whistling noises, but none of them seem to apply to where I'm hearing them.

I have no problem replacing the door seals, but visual inspection doesn't indicate any problem there -- they seem to be fully "inflated" (seem to be nice and fat), and the thinner black trim around the rear of the door openings also appears to be in good condition. It's possible that new seals are thicker -- can't tell without measuring one. I also wonder if there isn't some hidden adjustment that would cinch the door tighter into the opening?
