Did the car sit for a while before the knocking developed? Did you recently change to a different kind of oil or filter? The usual suspect is a worn-out lifter, which you will know because the knock will go away after 15 or 20 minutes of driving.

If it lasts longer than that, and you don't have any other symptoms, you may have a problem...
