The motor and transaxle will just pull a part. leaving the converter on the flex plate. You are still left with the same problem as installing a motor into an automatic in the reverse order, is usually deadly for the transaxle.

There are basically two courses of action for you at this stage - one that involves removing the bolts, and one that does not.

Course #1) The way I would try to remove these bolts would be to get a set of "Extractor" sockets, available at hardware and tool stores. They are like inside-out screw extractors (Easy-Outs), with the tapered twists on the inside, instead of the outside. Kind of pricey, but good tools usually pay for themselves in the long run...

Course #2) Leave the torque converter attatched to the engine, and remove the transmission anyway. The main problem will be the leaking fluid, although the pump drive shaft will require careful avoidance. There will be slightly better access to the bolts after the bell housing is gone, but not much. Not really a good choice overall, is it? Eventually, you could remove the crankshaft from the case, and take a chisel to the wretched bolts...

Best bet is probably the special sockets...

And what size are these? A 10 mm fits but not snugly. A 9 won't .

I thought these were suposed to be 13mm.
