I'm pretty certain my idle control valve is in need of replacement. My idle runs very high with the A/C engaged and it also intermittently fluctuates. Cleaning the valve with carb cleaner fixes it for a few minutes, but the problem comes back. I assume there is something sticking inside the valve and the carb cleaner lubricates it until it eventually evaporates. The Bentley procedure calls for some sort of test wiring harness which I do not have. How do you test this thing without it? I understand to plug the vacuum hole and to check the current. Am I checking the current coming to the valve, ie. unplugging it and cheching across the two wires leading to the valve, or does the valve need to remain hooked up? I'm going on a road trip Saturday and probably won't mess with it until I get back. The quick fix seems to be to turn off the A/C at idle and to spend the $200 on Black Hills tourist attractions. |
