> This doesn't seem to apply too much to a vanagon, unlike many other cars. There are few situations where the threads a bolt is going into isn't captive in some way. There's really nothing you can't get off either with a single wrench or a wrench and socket. I carry a small plastic case with snap lid that I find in the hardware section at home depot in each of my vanagons. I carry in each case, with slight variation between the diesel and the gas: Open end 7 and 8 mm 7 mm box for brake/clutch bleeders Box 10 and 13 (I love the ratcheting reversible box wrenches. Didn't think I would but I do) Combination 17 and 19 (plus a 15 for the belt tensioner nut on the diesel). Two four inch extensions Six inch ratchet Combination screwdriver
Spare oil plug copper gaskets (gasser) Cable ties Sandpaper for cleaning grounds Jackknife 10, 13, 17 and 19 sockets. The gasser needs a 14, I don't remember why The three commonly used allen sockets 5, 6 and 7 mm Folding allen wrench set Bent longnose and regular slip joint pliers Medium-sized drift/flat punch Flashlight Hose clamps Spare 10 and 13 mm screws with washers and nuts
All this goes in the plastic case, which is about the size of a three- ring binder. I have done pretty major work to both cars by reaching for no more than one of these kits. Jim
