Subject: An adventure while fetching a parts vanagon

Well , there it was. A diesel Vanagon is King George Va. Only 75 miles away. On Ebay I saw it. 2 days left on the auction, and it was bit to $56.29. Looked like this one could be a keeper. If could lay low,and sneak up and put a last second bid it, it could be mine. A real Vanagon diesel. Wow!

I've been searching for a parts diesel vanagon for a while now. Last month, on Ebay, there was one in Paxton Maine. Mike Collum said it was 1037miles from my zip code. Only $255 and a 1.9TD could be included. Too far. I guessed a Vanagon diesel had a value in relation to its location(location, location, location). Mikie said he didnt want it.I did , but too far away for my needs.

Next, was the 82 diesel Vanagon in Marin county, north of San Francisco. An old hippy van without a diesel oil pan. Apparently , it had been removed and lost(!) From what I gathered in corrospondence with the seller, it has an engine knock, and the pan was removed for inspection. Inspection of what, I couldnt imagin. I had a real coup on my hand here.A diesel knock is usually a dirty injector. See the Bentley ,on diesel engines. Every page warns of this mistaken diagnosis. I could fly out to SFO and get this van started, and wander cross country, back home, with my son(home form college). How quaint. I do have a diesel oil pan(See ebay -type in "diesel vanagon" Can you see me with a diesel oil pan in my lap ,on an airplane, going to San Francisco? "Wha.... It 's a diesel oil pan dont ya know? Yu mean you havent seen one before? Sheash". I sadly let this one go, too. Obviously, too risky. But what an adventure. Uncle VISA would have watched over me.

So there it was. with 24 seconds left on the eBay auction for the King George Vanagon,I made my move. I was bidding against cowridermi12. I had only recently lost another auction with this guy, for a Subaru Justy ECVT AUTO TRANSMISSION,new IN BOX. I knew his Ebay style , and I could defeat it. I had to bid the most I would pay for the Vanagon. Not $5 over the last bid. So, I entered $355 and pushed the BID button. Hell broke loose at Ebay for about 2 minutes. When the dust cleared, I had WON ! Final price for a 81 diesel Vanagon that didnt run,was $203.50. cowridermi12, had met his match.

Tomorrows chapter: The adventure begins.
