Subject: leaking transmission
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Mornin',

Happy to report that my Subie conversion is running like a dream. Unhappy to report that I have a leak around the driver's side axle flange.

I replaced the seals when I did the conversion. I noticed a very small drip-drip of Redline Synthetic when everything was finished; I thought maybe I'd installed the seal incorrectly.

Day before yesterday, took off the CV joint and replaced the axle flange seal again as well as a new little plastic cup, sealed the cup with Ultra Black and re-filled with Redline (I'd lost about 1/2 quart in the past month.)

I drove it around yesterday and after sitting, I noticed a little bit of fluid beneath it again.

I know the seal is in there as it should be, as well as the cup. It's leaking from somewhere around that area, but I can't be sure exactly where. Could it be a similar situation to using synthetic motor oil in an old motor, causing leaks?

Any ideas or help would be appreciated. I don't like the idea of a semi-monthly Redline refill. With that in mind, a new transmission would probably be more economical. That Redline is expensive...

Thanks, Joe T.
