I take it this is a stock Diesel Vanagon, since you mentioned 55mph... I'm
guessing those were cheap aftermarket CV bolts, if a 1.6NA managed to
shear them off! I've stalled out my 2.1L plenty of times in rough terrain and
never broke anything. If you replaced the bolts, it would be good to know
where you got them...
