Subject: Interesting rear heater core X ref and headlight find
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed

Today I picked 2 interesting lots from BC govt auction I won. Head lights and heater cores. They were listed, NOS, as probably for an Iltis.

The heater cores were a direct replacement for Vanagon rear heater core. The end caps are attached to the core differently than the original VW, but inlet, bleeder screw, outlet, all the same, and it fits perfectly into heater unit. Maker, Valeo.

Part number 861 819 121A (Bus Depot lists vanagon rear core as 867 819 121A)

The only other rear heater core X ref I know of is for the VW Polo. Apart from a lucky auction find, knowing about the Iltis heater core fitting is probably of limited use :)

The headlights are Ecode H4 with city lights. Hella, mounted on a frame that has a neat external lever that allows the light to be dipped more.

Unfortunately the light itself does not have the little metal tabs that orient lights in Vanagon frame but the light will fit in ok, just have to be careful when tightening Vangon retaining ring. Maybe, though I haven't yet looked, the Iltis frame can be retained and fit existing holes in Van.

VW part # 183 941 029
