Isn't the sparker a piezo sparker? They don't use batteries.

A dim LED that goes out suggests to me that there was sufficient heat
(flame) at the burner to light the lamp, but it did not get very hot and
it went out. Not a bad sparker, else there would not have been any lamp
lighting at all.
