Oh and about the stove cabinet in the Westy. The early Vanagon 80 and up to early 84 I think, I had a different seat belt than the later Vanagon. The buckle was different and the upper bracket over your shoulder was different--slightly thicker. As a result the Westy the lid on the kitchen is different in earlier and later models AND the later model upper bracket interferes slightly with opening the lid on the earlier model Westy.

Since the early seat belts were no longer available from the VW dealer one has to install the later model Vanagon seat belt with the later model reciever/buckle. The kitchen lid can still be opened with the newer seatbelt but the bracket needs to be swiveled out of the way of the open lid completely and secure the lid in the open and "locked" position. This is really no big deal. Just swivel the bracket out of the way on it's "axle" each time you open the kitchen for business.

On fitting the belts behind the kitchen in the Westy, I do remember that being a pretty tight fit even for the stock VW belts. In fact the cut outs in the cabinet--if I recall correctly--are tapered to the exact shape of the recoiling mechanism and likely wouldn't accommodate another manufacturer's belt without cutting away more of the cabinet.

My question his, Do any of you ever trid that? Would also fit a westy not only a vanagon. I'm wondering if it would fit along the stove cabinet?
