Nothing wrong with adding separate amber turn signal lights to the trailer, but those are what should be wired to their own quick release connection. Keep it simple by using the 4 wire connector for exactly the standard connections minus the turn signals. That way if someone ever plugs a standard trailer into it everything will work except the turn signals. Your way nothing will work and a fuse may blow on the van.
