Subject: clutch slippage
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

hey all, in addition to my morel experience, upon driving home i did notice a little clutch slippage in 3rd gear in my 87 syncro westy. i would shift to 3rd and then the rpm would cruise up a little while accelerating with out more power being transfered to the drive train. now, what's weird about this is this happened to me a couple of years ago, same vehicle, same clutch etc... and only occured after 1-2 hours highway driving in the summer time. then it stopped altogether for the last couple of years and i have been driving it just hard. then suddenly yesterday after a couple hours of drive time it began doing it again, but most noticeably in 3rd, possibly because i blow thru the first couple of gears so quickly. does this sound like classic clutch slippage? it seems like it is relative to heat, but why did it go away and now come back when driving conditions have stayed the same for the last couple of years? a mechanic once told me when a clutch begins to slip it pretty much goes quickly there after. that does not seem to be my case, if it is slipping it is holding on pretty well. what kind of crazy things could be going on here? anyone have this happen before? how long has a clutch lastest in your van when it began to slip till it was shot? TIA jason 87 syncro westy

so many roads to ease my soul...
