I had a 400 watt in my other van and went up to 1000 this time because the 400 wasn't enough for a lot of things. I can use a power drill off of it, my rotozip for cutting rusted exhaust bolts, a small 110 vaccuum cleaner, and ofcourse all the little things I used the 400 watt one for. For the extra cost going from 400 Watt to 1000 watt, I don't see any reason to go with the 400.
