1984 1.9L WBX auto trans on shakedown cruise before taking Mrs Squirrel out camping. This surging began two days ago while climbing up a 7% grade and after I passed the 4,000 ft marker. Engine would run fine for about 60 seconds, then lost power, as if I had taken my foot off the gas. After about 3 to 5 seconds, it would pick right back up again. Wash, rinse, repeat. Engine was warm: temp gauge needle one needle's width to the right of the coolant level lamp. Once I got to the top, flattish driving, no problem. Downhill, no problem; flat terrain near sea level, 60mph, no problem. I'll be taking Mellow Yellow into the shop -- what should I tell them to look for? -- Mike Elliott |
