I went to install a rear shoulder belt kit on the passenger side of my '85 Westy last night. A very straigtforward job, even for me. I easily found the attachment point installed at the factory behind the rear panel, cut an appropriate sized hole for it, removed the old male connector from beside the seat and then went to install the new reel in the aforementioned factory anchor point, Unfortunately, the bolt absolutely will not get started in the threads. I looked at them pretty closely and they are not severely mangled or anything - I'm sure they have never been used. I tried to clean the starting area a bit but I really couldn't see much to clean out. I tried both bolts (the one that came with the kit plus the one I took out of the side mount - they appear identical) with no luck. Anyone else ever have this problem? Do I need to re-tap the hole, and if I do is there any worry of weakening this critical link? While I'm on the topic, has anyone tried to add a headrest to the rear seat? The shoulder belt will be a nice safety addition but I would think the potential for whiplash would be pretty high without something to stop your head from snapping back.
