I really have to go with the stock orange for safety reasons - they are so
much more easily seen than the clear or smoked(even with 1157NA bulbs
installed).

However, if you're really into something different, howsabout BLUE?  I
picked up a pair of these at the recent VW Classic from a friend outa
Germany only just because they're unique from the clear, smoked and orange
more commonly seen.  Of course in California and most states they're totally
illegal to run because local regulations stipulate blue for police and other
emergency vehicles only.  But I had to have them "just because" :-)
