It couls spontaneously explode tomorrow but my Optima has been installed the exact same way for three years with no issues (knock on wood). Just be careful the battery is secured from moving up and down, and if you've cut the battery cover to poke the posts through (instead of removing the cover completely) then be sure to use electrical tape on the edges of the cover in case you get side to side movement.
