Interesting. A fan to take the hot air outside....hmmm.....

Here's a novel idea that I have incorporated in my fridge set-up that really works ! Someone on this list posed this a while back so a search of the archives should turn it up. Anyways, here goes. Remove the city water port assembly, cut out the centre portion so that you have a door and frame assembly with nothing in the centre. Get a 3" 12 volt computer fan and mount that fan to the backside of the city water port so that is sucks the hot air from behind the fridge to the outside atmosphere. I picked up the 12 volt power from the LED panel on the cabinet and mounted a small LED push button switch to operate the fan on the cabinet just next to the LED panel. The flap door is held open with a popcicle stick when the fan is operation. I will soon change the switch to a micro switch mounted so that when the door is opened the fan will come on. Getting the heat from behind the fridge to the outside of the vehicle is IMPORTANT. Why those super duper German engineers thought that pumping the hot air into the camper was gonna work is beyond me. Once the interior of the camper stabilizes at around 80 degrees the fridge ceases to work properly.

Cheers,
