Jeff,

3M makes splice connectors. IIRC they callthem quick connects. Looks like one is this package:

One side goesover the old wiring w/o stripping the insulation. The second accepts the end from you new wiring. Close cover and squeeze with pliers and you are done. You can find them for sale at you FLAPS or online.
