real simple answer Steve. Your solution would look like crap by my standards! There is no way you are going to cut all the angles to fit (as sewfine did with mine) w/o a lot of trial and error. Then you have all the lose ends of the cut carpet which need professionally sticked to keep from fraying. I am very much a DIY guy and have done carpet in my 34' boat which has many angles but not as many visible ends around the wheel arch as a vanagon.

I really doubt anyone could get a great looking fit the first try, maybe the 2nd if you are experienced at carpet cutting. The original molded carpet is of no use for patterns.

Mark if you are willing to take Steves advice just buy some great carpet mats from gowesty.com or similar then and cover up the uglies.

Interestingly enough when I inquired to gowesty.com about their custom fit carpet they said I would be disappointed and to try another sewfine.
