The good books are confusing and the Mitchell I have is even worse as
they say the 5.7 hours to R+R the transmission includes engine removal.
They add another hour for removing the flywheel. I guess they still
don't know the engine does not need removal to get the transmissions out
like the old busses did.
In fairness, with the skid plates and striped CV bolts, etc, 6 hours is
about right for the clutch replacement. Flywheel removal along with
machining adds time. Replacing the seals and either the clutch operating
shaft or the trans input shaft all add time. When I am asked, I plan on
8 hours.
While the trans is out, plan on the following add ons:
Clutch slave cylinder, if not fairly new, replace it.
Cross or operating shaft, if the fork is not round where it sits on the
Release nearing pads, replace it, along with the bushings.
Input shaft, any sign of damage or wear, replace it too.
Diff Lock, does it work or stick, fix it. Test the vacuum actuator.
Flywheel seal and o-ring. Also replace flywheel to crank bolts.
Lower mounting studs, yes they break, inspect or replace.
Front trans mounts, No matter they look OK, the spring action is gone,
replace.

Hi All,
I'm suffering from severe sticker shock. What is the average time to:
1) Pull a syncro engine and transmission together
2) Pull a transmission (without pulling the engine)
3) Replace the clutch (with the transmission out)
4) Replace the transmission (with the engine still in)
Any thoughts?
