Well, it doesn't take a fitting on the high side to charge it (shadetree) so he may have just not put it on there...

If he was so cheap as to pull off that valve to use on another vehicle, why would he waste his time putting on the high side if it wasn't required?

Are you going to be charging/recharging? If so, on a close to 20 yr old vehicle it may behoove you to drain it all out and clean the lines and start over anyway...sounds like even if it has 134 in it, it may not be worth keeping ;-)
