From the factory for Syncros, the bell housing and starter is sealed
with silicone. There is also a rubber flap or check valve installed in
the bottom between the case and bell housing to let oil drip water out
and keep water from entering quickly when going through puddles or
streams.

Hi all,
Just a question...
Is it practically correct to seal this area?
I mean, if there is a leak eiter from engine or transmission sealing
ring, how can it be found? The whole area in there will be filled with
oil...
In case there is no sealant between engine and transmission, the leak
will be found from the very first drops...
Ciao,

All Syncros had silicone sealant between the engine and transmission.

My mechanic has found what looks like silicon sealant on the
transmission case from my donor van. Is it normal to use sealant
between the engine and the transaxel?
