YMMV, but when I had this symptom the cuplrit was the throttle position switch, my ECU was convinced I was 'idling' when I was attempting to 'go'. My '85 is the single-switch variety (and a one year variation at that), most years have two switches, one that triggers when the throttle opens slightly, and one that triggers at full throttle. The idle TPS switch should change state the instant the throttle is cracked even slightly open. Check your Bentley, there are a couple of different switch arrangements, and different testing/adjustment procedures. If it fails the test, *before* you mess with the adjustment, pull your throttle body and clean up the crud (inside and out). In my case, I couldn't get a good adjustment until I pulled the throttle body and cleaned off all the crud, inside and out. I ran for about a year with the switch mis-adjusted (it would never go into 'idle' mode... my van idled too high, but I was able to pull away from a stop sign). Once I cleaned out the throttle body, so that the throttle could *close* far enough to trigger the switch, I was able to get it adjusted fairly well.
