Give up on the clips. They will come out intact only rarely. Some have good luck, and get most, but even VERY careful removal ends up breaking some. The "correct" replacements are pricey, but there are lots of "almosts" that are functional, but not as pretty.

Your failure is likely at the motor connection, under the hatch cover. Sometimes the ground connection at the motor goes away, sometimes it is the plug that is corroded, or hopefully, just loose. Worse would be a failure in the wires routed up through the hatch top edge, inside a rubber dust boot. Worst would be a dead motor. Try a check for power at the motor, there under the hatch cover, before assuming the worst, though.
