RE: Folks using notebook computers and working on tight energy budgets could save a few more mA if they get an inexpensive DC adapter for the laptop.

Mike, I've been trying to tell the list that for a couple of years now but everyone keeps wanting to use an inverter. One of the problems that can also be encountered is that the laptop won't run off the inverter! Not as common today as it was a few years ago (laptops have improved). A friend of mine (who happens to be a EE) does extensive cruising in a motor-sailor. He has a very sophisticated energy monitoring system on board. His equipment showed about a 30% lower current draw using a 12v dc adapter than running through a very good inverter system. IIRC the only thing that he runs from the inverter is a microwave. Virtually everything else is 12v dc or uses an adapter that runs from 12v. Enough said.....
