I think aq retrofitted front evaporator is the really interesting idea. If it could work you could also have dehumidfied air for defrost and the upper vents along the sides of the Westies as well.

If you have ever had your heater box out, you've seen that there is some space within the body just before air goes into the box. Could an evaporator be fit in there?

Also, the hot rod airconditioning places offer complete units with a dual use evaporator/ heater core. If such a core could be used to replace the core in the heater box you also could have all the advantages of running chilled air through the heater box.

Anybody know about these possibilities?
